Option of route FUENTES del VINO starting in Pamplona

4 exceptional days of cycling among Wineries and Mountains... Vineyards of Navarra and La Rioja, Sierra de Cameros, Cordillera Ibérica, Montaña Alavesa and Navarre north again.

Navarra, La Rioja, Soria, Burgos and Alava, 533 kilometres of cycling by creating links between the northern territories. In the Center; La Rioja, endless vineyards... modern wineries... historic villages... and the Ebro River, the old "Iber" of the Romans who gave name to the Iberian peninsula.

Although all the information is written performing the route clockwise, it is perfectly possible to do in the opposite direction without losing an iota of interest. Usually the sense of the route is determined by the need to avoid making night at Laguardia on Friday or Saturday. This is so because of the difficulty of booking accommodation in those days as a result of the tourist pressure supported by the village.

Multimedia and/or description of the route

First kilometers, Navarre of sunflowers.

Señorío de Otazu under the walls of Etxauri, first major encounter with the vineyards.

Port of Guirguillano. We observe the territory that we are going to ride in the coming days.

Guirguillano, Prize of the mountain. A quiet port to begin the day. In the background Pantano de Alloz, there we go.
 Gran Premio Indurain 2017

We are crossing Tierra Estella. At the background we begin to glimpse Sierra de Cantabria, which will serve as a horizon for a long time. To the right, the Sierra de Codés, there we go.

After the explosive kilometre that starts in Otiñano, we descend along the "Camino de los Pasajeros" at the doors of Santuario de Codés.

Alto de Aguilar, we leave behind the Sierra de Codes. Ahead... 13 kilometres of descent to Viana.

Ebro River. Ebro equal to Iber in Latin. The river that gave name to the Iberian peninsula

Sierra de Cantabria and autumn vineyards on the banks of the Ebro.

Logroño in their environment. Our PUNTO BIKE today.

Second Stage, autumn mornings can be cold in Logroño.

Typical landscape of the Sierra de Cameros. Territory of the first kilometers of the day.

Overwhelming Río Leza Canyon. The road, at the top, almost fly over the river.

We continue beside the Leza river. Environment of green mantle native close to Laguna de Cameros.

Autumnal atmosphere on the first ramps of Sancho Leza.

Ending the first difficulty of the day, Sancho Leza. We are entering the Sierra Cebollera.

As always, cows give us attention. In a few minutes we will enter in the province of Soria.

In Montenegro de Cameros began the climb to the top of the day.

Vegetation of high mountain during the ascent to Santa Inés.

Port of Santa Inés, 1753 metres above sea level, we are in the axis of the Iberian Range.

Fast descent to Vinuesa.

Vinuesa, a stop along the way.

Southern slope of the Sierra de Urbión. Puerto del Hierro, 1135 meters, an imperceptible altitude except for the sign that indicates it.

Last kilometres between Regumiel de la Sierra and Quintanar de la Sierra.

Quintanar de la Sierra, a mountain village in the Iberian Mountain range. Our PUNTO BIKE in Burgos.

Ascending to the Laguna Negra de Neila, a myth of the Spanish cycling and, of course, the "bone" of today's stage. The port begins practically in the same Quintanar de la Sierra.

13 km with demanding ramps that occasionally bite up to 17%

Urbion peak from the viewpoints of the Laguna Negra de Neila.

Euphoria of cima in the balcony where the asphalt ends. Below, the Laguna Negra de Neila, in the background, the Sierra de La Demanda.

When the port ends, the terrain allows "sterratear" by the Cirque.

Drought brings out Mansilla de La Sierra from the dam.

Scenes from the route.

The show makes doubt, shout or to remain silent?

Close to Bobadilla. We leave behind the Iberian Mountain range and return to the "friendly zone" of the route, again the warmth and the aroma of vineyard.

Fuentes del Vino_Monasterio San Millan

A mandatory stop. Yuso Monastery -San Millán de la Cogolla- World Heritage Site.

Days of harvest in Elciego.

A last effort - 200 meters- to ascend to Laguardia from the basin of the River Ebro in Cenicero.

Laguardia from Elciego, end of the third stage. In the foreground Wineries of Marqués de Riscal.

Laguardia La Nuit. If we are interested, we can also start the path at this PUNTO BIKE.

Before we start, we stop at the viewpoints of Laguardia and review with the look the last kilometres of the day yesterday.

We leave behind Laguardia.

Typical landscape in our wandering of La Rioja. Constant horizon, Sierra de Cantabria.

First section of the route, Laguardia - La Aldea. We should pass through the Sierra de Cantabria and fall on the other side, to the Montaña Alavesa.
 Cicloturista Vitoria 2016

Winter vineyards of Macán Wineries - Rothschild Vega-Sicilia - under the Sierra de Cantabria.

Spring vineyards between Kripan and Meano
 Cicloturista Vitoria 2016

La Población and Meano at the foot of the silhouette of the "Sleeping Lion". On the left, at the Rocky gap, is the port of La Aldea. We pass through it to go into the Montaña Alavesa.

Port of La Aldea in La Sierra de Cantabria, natural border between the Montaña Alavesa to the North and La Rioja to the South.

Scenes of the Montaña Alavesa. The muela de San Román on the village of the same name.

The landscape has definitely changed. In the Montaña Alavesa, the oak wood is the boss.

We crossed by the South side of the Sierra of Urbasa... Larraona, Aranaratxe, Eulate...

Scenes of the route, we are in the Sierra.

Abartzuza welcomes us. We do not know if with a threat or with a promise.

Etxauri Port road view from the sierra. The descent is as is sensed, fast and comfortable.

From the viewpoint of the Port of Etxauri we observe the end of FUENTES del VINO, Ciriza, Etxauri and the old Iruñea waiting.

The group of favourites in the last kilometer of the Port of Etxauri.
Euskal Itzulia 2017

The walls of Etxauri Port controlling the peloton pass, they climb, we descend it.
Euskal Itzulia 2017

This is finished, placid and rapid descent and easy roll up to Pamplona. The density of the forest reminds us that we are sharing this stretch of the route with BASOAK, another major route through stages in the Basque Pyrenees. ¿We combine both? ¿Will we combine the Iberian Mountain range and the Pyrenees in a great loop of 7 days? ...will be continued.
